Responsible for properties owned by the corporation, this person represents the company's broad interests in real estate matters ranging from acquisitions, leasing, subleasing, property management, tax issues, and disposition. This position is transaction oriented, with the goal of protecting the corporation's bottom line while implementing the business's strategy of positioning and operating corporate assets. A corporate real estate generalist will be the middle man between brokers, buyers, and sellers transacting with the corporation. Often this person will also assist the corporation in searching for new sites to acquire or new space to lease for operations.

Looking to the Future

As long as corporate America is in existence there will be a need to manage the real estate owned by the company. Rather than a third party service provider representing the company in acquisitions, dispositions, and leasing, corporations have found it worthwhile to have an in-house position whose only responsibility is corporate property. A corporate real estate generalist increases the corporations bargaining power, and will continue to be invaluable to firms in both short and long term decisions involving corporate real estate.
